Yesterday's removal of the exhaust gave me the confidence that we'd get the body off today. Mac was feeling a bit better, so he would be able to help me if I needed it, and also a colleague from his work was also over.
Three people should be enough to take the body off, right?

Day 10 - removing the exhausts
Last time, I had established that I needed to get the footwells out in order to get enough space to get a good socket over the exhaust bolts. So, that was my first priority, starting with the near-side footwell. Unfortunately, Mac wasn't feeling too good, so I had to do a lot of this myself.

Day 9 - continuing
Okay, so we haven't done any work for about 18 months. I'd suspended work on the Marcos, pending Mac's tidying of the garage.
Unfortunately, that didn't really happen until last weekend. There was a bit of a 'stuff move', where things needed to be moved out of the cellar to somewhere else in order to get the car bits that were in a spare room out (and into the cellar), and then we could clear the garage up.

Day 8 - removing the body
Or rather, trying to.
I've got a small space heater which would be ideal for heating the area up:

It's gas powered with an electric fan directing the heat.

Day 7 - continuing to remove bits
There was still some more things left to do before the body should be able to be removed.
I cut around the rear suspension bolt that was in the way:

I then cut around the footwells to allow them to remain in place while the body was being lifted. Unfortunately, this didn't photograph that well!

Day 6 - clearing stuff to remove the body
It's a bank holiday this weekend - the aim is to get the body off on Monday, leaving Saturday and Sunday to remove things that would prevent us from doing this.
Since there was a fair amount of fuel in the tank, it needed to be removed. Rather than siphon it out, I decided to use the electric pump that was there - all it needed was power...

Day 5 - ancillaries
Today was all about removing the ancillary bits that were bolted to the chassis, in preparation to removing the body.
First to go was the box around the pedal box.

Day 4 - taking the bonnet off
Well, my mate didn't have much sleep over the weekend, so we only did about 45 minutes today. However, it was a fair amount of work done in that time!
The bonnet was the next thing to take off - after all the bolts that wanted to come off were removed. The first difficulty was moving the car - it had sat in its current position for a fair while, and refused to budge. Then we had the idea to drive the car backwards; only to be thwarted by the earlier removal of the electrics - especially the bit around the key.

Day 3 - a very short day
I went down to my mate's house for some burgers, and did a tiny amount of work on his car.
I took some of the self-tapping bolts that hold the body on the chassis (!) - although some of them will need to be cut off because they're no longer hexagonal due to them rusting away.

End of day 2
Today was a lot more dismantling from the centre and back.
We removed the hood and hood tensioning bar (which is where we'll place the roll hoop)...

Day 2
Good news. When Jason arrived, I was already midway through clearing the garage. This required a bit of yak shaving, since there were rose bushes blocking the way to the cellar (which was a more sensible place for most of the boxes, and had been their home before the flood).
So the yak shaving steps were:
1. Put in stakes for rose bushes (hammer in the Marcos)
2. Find cable ties (supply already in the Marcos)
3. Empty Marcos of boxes we had put in it last night (needed to be done anyway).
4. Curse lots while tying rose bushes back
5. Find gloves (did without in the end)

Day 1 - beginning to strip the car down
Well, I've been promising a mate of mine that I'd do his car after finishing my Aeon GT3 that I would sort his car out, and finally it's started.
It failed its MOT a couple of years back on a large number of things (there were 4 sheets of paper in the failure), so the amount of work needed is quite large. Plus it isn't in a very nice state (the interior is falling apart, the brakes are atrocious and the body panels do not fit very well), so it needs a bit of attention anyway. Since then, it's languished in his garage.
